Learning to lead climb can be a scary and daunting experience with many unknowns. Having climbed with Gordon on several occasions now and knowing that the weather was supposed to deteriorate throughout the day we opted for the steep walls of Huntley’s cave.

Huntley’s cave is 3 miles north of Grantown on Spey and is so named because Lord Huntley is said to have sought out refuge here following a defeat by Archibald Campbell, the 1st Marquis of Argyll.

The history of the places gives it an strange oppressive vibe, or possibly this could be down to the steep and intimidating nature of the Mica-schist crag.

However once you get onto the rock you soon realise that it is actually very good quality and there is plenty of protection to be found.
