So it appears that summer arrived and allowed me to take to the might cliffs of Reiff for the first trad climbing of the season for a day and to canoe into the hills to tackle the infamous pinnacle ridge dominant on the sky line of Cul Mor.

Jane’s visit began with a bag and a rather cold but determined trip right to the tip of reiff in hunt of a few easy grades to kick off the season. Rubha Ploytach was the finial destination and we settled for one or four cold but optimistic climbs in the sun with the wind easting away at out energy.

Returning for tea and meddles we dreamed up a crazy plan for the following days adventure. With our minds set on pinnacle ridge on the north side of Cul Mor the only question was the mode of travel into the scramble. The preference was canoe and so the bags were packed. Drifting in quietly to leave the canoe on a sandy beach beneath the shadow of Cul Mor was spectacular and make the climb seem all the more remote. The ridge itself is graded moderate although there are many options which could make the ascent a little bit easier.

The pinnacle itself is apparently graded VS but is possibly less if your confident. Once the challenge of the pinnacle is either met or declined there are a few more choice lines to make before reaching the summit. Topping out into the evening sun light was awe inspiring and standing on top of Cul Mor in the fading light made the day all the more special. Of course this did leave us walking back to the canoe in the dark and paddling for what felt like an age in complete darkness. All in all a fantastic day in the mountains and I would thoroughly recommend canoeing into access these hills.
